Broadway Show Hairspray Tickets and Show Reviews

The hit Broadway Show Hairspray opened in the famous theater district of New York City on August 15, 2002. The productions home has been the Neil Simon Theatre located at 250 West 52nd Street. The show runs about two hours and forty minutes with one intermission.

Hairspray is an original musical which is set in Baltimore Maryland in the year 1962. The time is still of innocence and a young women named Tracy Turnblad, who has big dreams and possibly bigger hair. Tracy has one dream and one dream only and she is set to take it as far as she can go, never with any hesitation or reserved manner. Tracy wants what she want and that is to dance, not just around the house, but on the most happening show on television called the Corny Collins Show, a teenage dance show with a popular following.

Tracy wins her spot on the dance show and so the story begins. Quickly she becomes an overnight teen celebrity as the

most popular girl on the program. Tracy becomes the new queen of the Corny Collins Show and soon pursues her love interest, a young man named Link Larkin, who has captured the heart of Tracy.

Hairspray is based on the John Waters 1988 film of the same name. Starring the then unknown (to anyone but Waters) Ricki Lake , who gained huge success from the role. Hairspray is a light hearted and funny story, which leaves you rooting for Tracy, who plays a bit of an underdog.

The Neil Simon Theatre holds 1297 seats which sell out often, Broadway show Hairspray tickets average about seventy dollars with the ticket high at about two hundred and forty dollars.

Broadway Chicago Show Review

Broadway Chicago Show Review

The production of Chicago is back on Broadway, The 1975 original show scored mild success in New York's theater district, but never won the hearts of audiences. The "new" Chicago is now in it's eighth year and has gained a solid fan base along with praise from critics.

Perhaps it is the storyline of Chicago which is more adapted to today's courtroom dramas and media frenzy which seems to be a staple of our society. In the new era of news coverage and with people hanging on to a "Hollywood" story, such as the infamous O.J chase down the Los Angeles streets, it seems the story of Chicago is more able to succeed then a quarter of a century ago when such a story may have seemed a bit absurd.

So what is so intriguing about the show? Well, lets start out with Roxie hart, an outlandish over the hill woman who decides on killing her boyfriend. Roxie then hires an attorney to try and put the blame on her husband. She loves the attention she is receiving and soon becomes a celebrity status, which seems to drive her more. Turning the courtroom into a carnival and enjoying every second of her new found fame and media attention. The revival of Chicago has become a success in the theater district of New York, and has received critical acclaim for the musical scores and dance sequences which lavish the production.

Currently starring such actors as Brooke Shields, Luba Mason, Christopher McDonald, Debra Monk, P.J. Benjamin Music by John Kander a book by Bob Fosse and Fred Ebb under the direction of Walter Bobbie and choreography by Ann Reinking in the style of Bob Fosse. Chicago is a huge hit and has become one of Broadway's "must see" shows.
